Kenna was born and raised in San Jose, California. She is of Yaqui, Tarascan, and Huichol descent.
Kenna has been involved in art since her childhood. As a student in High School she took graphic arts and graphic design. She began college in 1986 as a graphic arts major. Although Kenna’s major would change a few years later, it is here that she first took a metalsmithing class. She discovered metalsmithing as way to express her creativity. Kenna studied metalsmithing under Eileen Hill. It was Eileen that guided Kenna to find her unique style.
Kenna was drawn to the natural beauty and peacefulness of New Mexico and in November of 2000 she moved to Santa Fe. In March of 2001 she began taking metalsmithing classes at the Poeh Center.
